SHAPESHIFTER

In mythology shapeshifting is the ability of a being or creature to completely transform its physical form or shape. Usually achieved through an inherent ability of a mythological creature or divine intervention. The idea of shapeshifting is present in the oldest forms of totemism and shamanism, as well as in some of the oldest literature and, where the shapeshifting is induced by the act of a deity.

The most common form of shapeshifting mythology is that of the transformation of a human being into an animal or conversely, of an animal into human form.

This painting taps into that mythology of woman shapeshifting into the divine wolf. It measures 24″ x 30″, is a photo-transfer, charcoal, acrylic with a resin top coat on canvas. Kleinsteuber’s paintings have a unique style and her perspective, sensual and powerful.

This is a remarkable work. The complexity of the image lingers after one viewing and deepens over time.

Sons & Fathers

Kleinsteuber is well known for portraits in which a photo-transfer technique is used, along with charcoal and often bright colours, giving her work a pop art feel. The subject matter of Kleinsteuber’s painting take on a form that is both confrontational and seductive. These portraits are sexy and unapologetic.

When Gods Become Men Series

I see this painting as an image of God in human form:  A god more ancient than our Christian mythology gives us – a god from the ancient myths that painted dark stories of Persephone and Hades – the gods and goddesses of the underground. This is the god I see when I look at this image. The image says to me, “I am iconic”. It is the symbolic embodiment of something elusive and yet classically familiar.

If we bring these concepts forward in time, we may see another type of warrior, recognizing faces of those who have been through a personal war and are bringing all of those experiences with them as they come home. This image is timeless and could be reminiscent of the strength and the fragility of the son, the father, the brother, lover or friend.

My intention is to create a series of paintings that reflect this timelessness and addresses universal concepts of men returning from the dark, celebrating and mourning the idea that the men we love are Gods in human form.

The painting is photo-transfer, charcoal, and acrylic on wood panel and is in
excellent condition. Kleinsteuber’s style and her sensual perspective
Is powerful.

This is a remarkable work. The complexity of the image lingers after one viewing
and deepens over time.

A magnificent Kleinsteuber Original for your collection.
